Goal Setting To Make You Happy

March 31st, 2009

After years of research on happiness, money, life and goals, here are some of my key findings.

Researchers from the University of Illinois and Pennsylvania State declare that, in a 1985 survey, the Maasai of East Africa were almost equally satisfied with life as some of the 400 richest Americans on the Forbes list. The Maasai are a traditional herding people who have no electricity or running water and live in huts made of dung.

Goal. Realize that making huge amounts of money doesn’t necessarily buy happiness. Maybe it’s time to stop competing with the neighbours for the flashiest car. Money, power, fame or status should not be treated as the goal, rather as resources towards more meaning and purpose. Perhaps the goal will be more freedom, control and health in your life.

People who are truly successful look at their values and live a rich and rewarding life created through healthy relationships, personal integrity, and discovery. They are not concerned with impressing others with wealth and status.

Goal: Spending more time with family, friends and the community can be an inexpensive yet incredibly rewarding experience as opposed to watching TV or shopping. Being honest with yourself and open to new adventures certainly adds spice to life as well.

People happiest in their jobs are the ones that remain truly engaged, learn something new everyday, and have a connection with different groups and networks.

Goal: Start learning new things. Discover your passions and build on them. Seek information. This is what leads to true meaning and purpose in ones career.

Summary. Being clear on your life goals leads to a much more satisfying life.

1) After basic needs are met, money doesn’t buy much more happiness.

2) Our relationships with others provide some of our greatest values and inspirations.

3) Connecting with your work and continuously seeking value adding information makes life much more satisfying.

Reviewing the Journey -How Far Have You Got?

March 29th, 2009

Finding out how far you have got in your music career is all down to what you want to be and how close you are to reaching that goal.

Is your goal to perform regularly? Is your goal to practice with your band? Is your goal to meet various musicians? Is your goal to learn to play different styles? Do you want to attract regular performances? Do you want to build better audience rapport? Do you want to be more confident?

How you want to be is down to what you believe and what you want. In order to review how far you have got so far, let’s spend a while discovering what you really want from your music…

Please take some time to answer the following questions for yourself. Spend time being specific and detailing your answers.

(1) Why are you a musician?
(2) What do you want to be doing as a musician?
(3) What level do you want to be performing at?
(4) Where do you want to play and perform?
(5) With whom do you want/aspire to play with?

This forms the basis of understanding what you really want to get out of your music career. Now let’s move on to the real stuff - seeing how far you’ve got!

Spend some time answering the following questions.

(1) Up till now, where have you performed?
(2) What measures have you taken up till now to get yourself performances?
(3) What things didn’t seem to go your way?
(4) What setbacks have you experienced?
(5) What understanding have you gained from your past “failures?”

Great stuff! Before we continue on our path of reviewing your journey, there’s one more thing I want to share with you…

“There are no failures”

Yes, that’s right! There are no failures whatsoever and the reason is this: If you do something which you may term as ‘failure’, think back to it and ask yourself if you’ve learned something from it. If you have, it’s definitely going to aid you in your future pursuits, right? And if it’s helped you in your future pursuits, then how is it a failure?

So in order to successfully review your personal music journey, understand that there are no failures and that everything you’ve done successfully or not too well acts as a learning curve in your future attempts. You NEVER fail until you stop trying.

Go back and look at your answers to the first five questions. These are the goals you are out to achieve. Now look at your answers to the next five questions.

How far on a scale of one to ten (10 being your goal achieved) do you think you are from your goal?

Why do you think that you are in your current position? What can you be doing to move forward and closer to your goal? What actions will you now take to move closer to your goal? What are your next steps?

Congratulations, you have now briefly reviewed your journey.

Working with a coach to achieve your goals is one of the best moves you can make. If you would like more information, simply drop me an email at info@coachkavit.com

Consulting Your Soul

March 27th, 2009

Recently I approached a traffic light where a man stood in shabby clothes with a three-legged dog by his side. As I waited for the light to change I looked at this scene with compassion and felt an urge to contribute something. The sign he was carrying indicated that he was homeless. The people in my car commented that he was a strong young man, there were plenty of employment opportunities, and why should anyone give to people who are capable of working. They indicated a kind of mild contempt for this man soliciting funds whom they felt “should” be working. My thoughts were on him and the fact that he cared for and fed this crippled dog. I rolled down the window and gave him several dollars for which he expressed enormous gratitude.

As the companions in my car semi-scolded me for being a sucker and for enabling him to continue to be a beggar I thought of some words of Mother Teresa. “You see, in the final analysis, it is all between you and God, it was never between you and them anyway.” Truly this was not between me and my friends in the car, nor was it between that homeless man and me. It was between God and me. Something inside of me urged me to extend love and a little cash to the man and his dog. That “something” was a fleeting moment of consulting my soul.

To me, spiritual and physical are not two separate dimensions of reality. I think of spiritual practice as a way of making my life work at a higher level and receiving guidance for handling my problems. The ways in which I do this involve a few simple, basic practices:

Surrender is the most crucial and perhaps most difficult for me. In surrendering, my thoughts are something like this: I simply do not know how to resolve this situation and I am turning it over to the same force that I turn my physical body over to every night when I go to sleep. I trust in this unseen part of me to keep my heart beating, my blood circulating, and so on.

Accessing spiritual solutions means converting my inner thoughts and feelings from discord and disharmony to love. In the spirit of surrender and love I silently chant, “I invite the highest good for all concerned to be here now.” I try to see anger, hatred and disharmony as invitations to surrender and love. With this understanding I have the option to allow spirit to manifest and work through me.
I believe my spirit is inseparable from the infinite. Having a relationship with the infinite part of myself encourages my recognition of spiritual solutions. The awareness of my infinite nature is terrific for putting everything into perspective.

My approach to problem-solving involves cultivating an empty mind. In this space I listen, and allow myself to have complete faith that I will be guided in the direction of resolution. I let go of my ideas about how something should be resolved.

Finding spiritual solutions to my life’s problems always involves generosity and gratefulness. For me, this means giving my life to my soul purpose and being grateful for the opportunity to do so. I believe that I get back from the world what I put out to the world, not only physically but also in terms of my thoughts. So, I recommend spiritual practices that involve being generous and grateful with thoughts as well as actions.

Nurturing a sense of connectedness to everyone and everything invites spiritual solutions. When I see myself as connected I am not looking for occasions to be offended or to judge. I don’t see anyone as my enemy or an obstacle. This is how I relinquish negative self-talk and connect to the solutions that are available to me. In moments of despair I try to affirm, “I see nothing, I hear nothing, I know nothing that is separate from me.”

Finally I choose cheerfulness as a gauge of my level of spiritual consciousness at any given moment. The more cheerful, happy, contented, and satisfied I am feeling, the more aware I am of my connection to spirit. So, does all this mean I’m suggesting that you always give money to people who ask for it? No. But I am suggesting that the next time you see someone asking for money, look at that situation as being between you and your spiritual consciousness - between you and God. Consult your soul and if you feel that you don’t want to give, don’t. But rather than letting anger or judgment rule the moment, offer that person a silent blessing from the part of you that is a part of him. This is consulting your soul.

How to Make Networking Work For You, Part 1

March 26th, 2009

For some people, a networking event is excruciating, intimidating and even feels physically and emotionally painful. Some people consider networking to be a waste of time, because they don’t see immediate results.

To others, networking is fun. It is something they look forward to. These people are the ones you see who look like naturals. They are visibly enjoying themselves and look as though they are spending time with old friends.

So, what’s the difference between the two? Is there a secret to successful networking?

There are no secrets for successful networking, but there are some very valuable and simple steps to follow to make your networking experience something that is both enjoyable and profitable for you.

Businesses have found that networking can be one of the most efficient, effective and cost-effective ways of marketing your business, your products and your services. Networking is a great way for you to become known within a community of individuals who are also coming together for the purpose of marketing themselves and their business.

So, if everyone goes to a networking meeting to become known, how could networking possibly work? The answer lies in the INTENTION of the attendees.

You see, the most successful Networkers know that networking is not all about them. It’s not about handing out and collecting as many business cards as possible in an hour and a half. It’s not about continually talking about them and being the center of attention.

The most successful Networkers know that networking is ALL about creating relationships. It’s about making connections, showing up and being fully present. It’s also about consistency.

You see, networking is not a one-shot deal. Networking is a process. And great relationships don’t happen in a single meeting… they grow over time.

The purpose of networking is to be with groups of people often enough so that you get to know them and they get to know you. Great relationships occur over a series of conversations, not just a 30-second introductory “commercial”.

This is not to say that you can’t go to a meeting one time and meet the exact person who has the perfect contact for you to expand your business. What is true is this: If you are meeting the perfect person with the perfect contacts for the first time, will they feel comfortable referring you? Will they be willing, on the first time meeting you, to refer you to their long-time colleagues and associates, family and friends?

Think about it… When you refer someone, your OWN reputation goes right along with that referral. If you refer someone and it works out, then you’re a hero and the person you gave the referral to will trust your judgment in the future. If it doesn’t work out, then they might be less likely to trust your referrals and you. Therefore, it is important to get to know the people you will be referring and to let them get to know you. This way they feel good about referring you and you feel good about referring them. This is what creating relationships is about. This is what great networking is about.

It’s not about selling. It’s not about you. It’s about the group. It’s about getting to really know people and letting them get to really know you. It’s about consistently showing up, and especially, successful networking is about creating great relationships!

How To Recover Data Or Survive A Hard Disk Disaster

March 18th, 2009

A hard disk drive (HDD, or also hard drive) is a fixed data storage device that stores data on a magnetic surface layered onto hard disk platters. A hard disk uses rigid rotating platters (disks). Each platter has a planar magnetic surface on which digital data may be stored. Information is written to the disk by transmitting an electromagnetic flux through an antenna or read-write head that is very close to a magnetic material, which in turn changes its polarization due to the flux.

The information can be read by a read-write head which senses electrical change as the magnetic fields pass by in close proximity as the platter rotates.

Disk failure occurs when a hard disk drive no longer operates and the information on it can no longer be accessed by the computer.

This can happen for no reason at all or due to an external factor such as exposure to fire or water or High Magneticwaves or suffering a sharp impact How seriously the disk failure is varies.

The most serious and well-known kind is the head crash where the internal read-and-write head of the device touches a platter or a magnetic data storage surface. A head crash normally causes severe data loss and, moreover, data recovery attempts may cause further damage if not done by somebody with specialized knowledge.

There are also controller electronics which occasionally fail. If that happens it may be possible to recover all data.

When your computer’s hard disk starts to act funny, make sure that you have an up-to-date backup. Then you can prepare some simple diagnostics and possibly repairs. Both Windows and Mac OS come with built-in hard-disk utility software that scans your hard disk for errors and attempts to fix them.

This is what you can do for Windows Steps: 1. Double-click on My Computer to open the My Computer window. 2. Select the disk that you want to diagnose and repair. 3. Choose Properties from the File menu. You can see the Properties window for the drive that you selected. 4. Choose the Tools button. 5. Click the Check Now button under Error Checking Status. 6. Choose either “Thorough” or “Scan for and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors.” 7. Click on Start.

Tools to recover data are various such as:

There is a Data Recovery Utility which examines your inaccessible hard drive for damages and corruptions and recovers the data back.

Hard drive can be recovered from Windows 9x / ME / NT / 2000 XP / 2003 disk recovery Supports FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 file system Provides data recovery from Formatted logical drives Recovers data from Re-partitioned & Missing/ Lost Logical drives Lost folder and deleted file recovery.

There is also a partition recovery utility available that helps you in recovering all your important data lost after accidental formatting, virus problems, software malfunction, and file or directory deletion. There are also easy to use FAT & NTFS Partition File recovery Utilities that examine your inaccessible hard drives for damages and corruptions and recover the data.

There are also systems which:

Provide Partition recovery from FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, NTFS5 file systems. Recover deleted files/folders even after recycle bin has been emptied or use of Shift+Del key. File recovery from deleted partition, lost partition missing partition or formatted logical drives. File recovery from Missing or Lost folders. Recognize and preserve long file names when restoring files & folders. Multi-Disk Drive Support - Performs NTFS recovery on all IDE, EIDE and SCSI disk devices.

There is also software that recovers corrupt or lost data from floppy disks.

The software supports inaccessible floppy disk data retrieval, FAT, BOOT or ROOT area damaged situations, and rescues various corrupt files from a diskette. BadCopy Pro can recover data from floppy disks that Microsoft Windows identifies as “not formatted”, “not accessible”, or prompts you to format.

The software does not write data to your floppy disks, but saves the recovered data to a new file that you specify. It can fix corrupted files on floppy disk. It can restore damage to a FAT (File Allocation Table) or BOOT area of the disk. It can repair damage to the ROOT area of the disk, so that files can be listed again. It can erase Viruses on a diskette.

There is also software available that fixes corrupted or damaged Microsoft Word documents.

There is also a new product on the market; software that creates a Windows CD for you, and creates recovery files so you will not need to format to reinstall Windows.

It has been asked many times “I have Windows XP (or ME), how can I install Windows without having to lose all my files. I only have a Recovery Disk”. Well it is really very simple, so long as you have a CD burner; or at least a second hard drive.

Put away Your Free Child Trust Fund Voucher with Scottish Friendly, so Your Litte One Can Have a Huge Lump Sum of Money when They Grow up

March 12th, 2009

Are you aware of the Child Trust Fund and its benefits? Not many UK parents markedly

small number of parents seem to know about the fact that all new babies are given a free £250 voucher from the the State to invest. This vouchercan be invested in any one of threekinds of CTF account, Stakeholder - a shares-based account that swapsinto cash, a savings account or a shares account. It is a great opportunity to prepare needs of a infant

Scottish Friendly is a licensed provider of the Child Trust Fund Voucher. The State is eager for people to have access to Stakeholder accounts and this is the form of account that we provide. This means that:

• Investments are saved into Scottish Friendly’s Managed Growth Fund, which seeks to provide strong growth potential
• It invests in part in shares to get the benefit of potentially higher returns over 18 years, compared to a cash deposit account (although the value of shares canfall as well as go up whereas capital would be protected in a deposit account)
• It is available with a low ‘Stakeholder’ funds charge of only 1.5% per year
• When reaching 18 the young person will receive a lump sum, wholly free of Capital Gains and Income Tax under present legislation
• It is very affordable - extra payments can be put in the account from only £10

One of the great attractions of the Child Trust Fund is that anyone - parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends - can add to the Fund to an uppermost limit of £1,200 per year to help increase the child’s Fund (once added, this money is not allowed to be withdrawn).

What this means is that our Stakeholder account offers a good balance between potentially high returns and a reduced level of risk. There is also the additional assurance that our account meets with the Government’s stakeholder criteria. However this does not mean that returns are assured or that Stakeholder accounts are suitable for everyone. Bear in mind that the value of shares in the Managed Growth Fund (where your Child Trust Fund money is held) can go down as well as go up and is not guaranteed.

Only children who were born on or after 1st September 2002 are eligible to open a Child Trust Fund. If you have older children who are not qualified you could contemplate investing for them with a Child Bond - it’s a tax-free savings plan intended for long-term growth. There can be no doubt that saving for your children is a sound means of preparing for possible future credit crunches.

A Short Guide to Balding in Ladies and Men

March 11th, 2009

Hair Thinning is usually one of the most nerve-racking conditions men and women have ever put up with. A lot of individuals consider their hair as; a crucial element of one’s charisma, an important part of one’s self. Hair in conjunction with baldness is recurrently viewed as signs of one’s current age. That is one of the motives why people are relentlessly troubled at any time they are faced with the probability of balding. For this reason people continuously do whatever they are able to do and accept everything they hear in order to make sure that they save that magnificent hair of theirs as lush and as strong as can be. If you have ever been worried about loosing your precious hair, then the Advanced Hair Check is a free, no-obligation service.

Hair loss can be common in women and is more usual following the menopause; yet; alopecia is very unlikely to take place in every case. Instead, in lots of cases the sufferer will only witness increased hair loss & thinning of the scalp, specific treatment programs can improve the end result. Even though alopecia is commonly tolerable in males it is undesirable in females & in loads of occasions it can have worrying impact on the sufferer’s emotional situation and confidence. Though you should not be worried - hair loss can be cured and stopped as soon as you have recognised what causes it & what you must do.

Without a doubt the most known sort of hair loss seen in females is androgenetic alopecia, also known as female pattern alopecia or baldness. This is seen as hair thinning mostly over the top & sides of the skull. It affects approximately one-third of all at risk women, even though it is most commonly observed following menopause, though it may start as early on as puberty. Typical hair fall is roughly speaking one hundred to one hundred & twenty five hairs daily. Luckily, these hairs are replaced by the mechanisms in the body. It’s definitely true that baldness happens when lost hairs are not replaced or when the daily hair fallout exceeds one hundred & twenty-five hairs. Hereditarily, baldness can come from either parent’s part of the family line.

Goal Setting and Goal Getting: 3 Traps to Avoid

March 9th, 2009

The Only in Your Head Trap

No, this is not an “it’s all in your head kind of thing.”

What we too often do is merely think about our goals. We let them run around in our heads and think because we thought about it, we’ll get there.

I don’t think it works that way.

If you want to dramatically increase the chance of reaching your goals, write them down and keep them close. You want to have your written goals in a place where you will see them everyday.

To sum it up, the weakest ink is better than the strongest memory.

The Inconsistency Trap

For the first two to three weeks of the year, the gym to which I belong will be very crowded. Getting a parking place between 5 pm and 6:30 would be a joke.

Then, as always, the crowd will taper off. It’s almost as if people believe all they have to do is exercise at the beginning of the year and that covers it.

This sounds really silly in this context, but it’s how we behave in so many other situations as well.

In order to achieve our goals, we need consistent day to day behavior and choices over time.

The Slipping Trap

Once you set a goal and start working toward it, there is going to be some slippage. This is just human nature.

Another feature of human nature is that once we slip, we then slide into thinking the heck with it, I’ve messed up, so I might as well just give up.

There is a much better alternative. Instead of saying the heck with it and giving up when you slip, get back up. Learn from what happened, learn how to prevent future slips, and get back on course.

As the Japanese proverb tells us:

“Fall down seven times, get up eight.”
