Create a Traffic Stampede to your Website.

May 25th, 2008

Great website! You have done your work, now how to get traffic
flowing to your site. A stampede of visitors sounds very good
doesn’t it? A beautiful site without traffic is dead. A little
secret I have learnt on my journey is that some poorly developed
sites get great traffic and you ask how they do it?

Traffic comes from various sources, the main one being the
search engines. We can examine the ways to get traffic and the
inherent drawback if it is not done properly.

1. Search engines

These are the major way to get traffic. By submitting your site
to Google and yahoo, you have set the ball rolling to getting
great traffic. But often times ( and this is the part the SEO
fail to tell you) , submitting your site means just that
submitting.

First, it make takes weeks and months to get your site indexed
by the major engines. So in the meanwhile get busy submitting to
all the other engines you can , you stand a greater chance of
being indexed and listed.

When you do get indexed by the major engines unless you are a
niche marketer and or your site is well optimized and able to
keep up with the ever changing algorithmic rules of the engine,
you will not rank too highly.

Not ranking highly affects how many traffic you get. After all,
how many people search through results to #3,876,456, and trust
me that is a real page rank number. So maybe its time to look at
other options if the search engines fail you the first time
around.

2. Linking

Who’s linking to you. Linking plays an important role in
determining your page rank. How important is still the subject
of debate. The fact is there are two types of link techniques
considered by the engines. One way back links and reciprocal
links. Now which one is better is also a hot topic, but it might
just be that one way incoming links to your site has more
weight. At least with the search engines current logarithms.
That does not mean reciprocal linking does not work, and in fact
since it is easier to get, might be your initial starting point
with links.

Whichever method you choose, ensure that you link to reputable
sites and avoid site with a lower pr value than yours. Make sure
the content on the site is relevant to yours as it gives added
boosts to your sites ratings.

One quick way to get links is from link partners wherein an
automated system is set up to link subscribers. There are
monthly fees, and be advised that to pay large amounts of money
to persons who will just use a link farm to produce your links
makes no sense. If you are going to use it make sure you keep
your monthly cost down.

While this methods of garnering links works well, there is talk
that the engines are not looking favourable on it. But then
again there is always talk. The trick is to keep you eyes and
ears open for new developments with the search engines.

At the end of it all, can you get traffic from the link method
you will choose?. If so, then choose what works for you. If
there was one magic and correct way, then there would not be so
many self help books on SEO and search engine algorithms. They
are many sites who do not rank high on the search algorithms but
do quite well because they get their traffic from link partners.

3. Buy Traffic

When all else fails or like many in addition to, you can
purchase traffic. Simply enter web traffic into Google and see
the results. There are both free and paid traffic hosts.

The free ones are quite good if you have the time to view
someone else’s’ site, and I have personally used some and have
tracked the stats. But sometimes it takes viewing up to 5 sites
to get one visitor to you. Another drawback can be that the
person only want enough credits so that they can get their own
visitors, so they do not really visit your site as so as to
check your merchandise, they simply load your page. This does
not help you sell.

Traffic sites sell traffic to you as country specific, global,
targeted and untargeted. The more targeted the visitor the more
likely your chance to convert into a purchasing customer. The
cost of the traffic package will vary depending on the type of
traffic bought. Do not spend unnecessarily high amounts on
traffic that may very well be an automated system ‘visiting’
your site. Do your research of these sites carefully before
buying plans. Keep the amount low and if necessary spend it
around different traffic sites. it is less like that you will
lose all your money that way, and if one is ripping you off,
chances are(we hope!) not all of them will.

10 Free Business Resources I Wish I’d Known About When I Sta

May 24th, 2008

The impression that you need large sums of money to set up a
successful (and profitable) website is totally wrong.

Indeed, the longer that I do business on the Internet the
more I find that there are numerous free resources out there
that can be amazingly helpful.

I thought therefore that I’d put together a list of my ten
favourite free business-building resources and exactly what
they can do for you.

Ready?

1) Link Checkers

Visitors to websites hate “dead links” - links that don’t
got anywhere.

And because visitors hate it, so do search engines. They’ll
penalise you for dead links.

Therefore, by just making sure all your links work properly
you’ll look more professional, get better rankings in the
search engines and build better rapport with your visitors.

2) Alexa

Alexa ranks websites by traffic. The smaller the number of
their ranking, the more traffic they get.

You can use it to keep a running tab of whether your traffic
is increasing or decreasing - and compare it to your
competitors.

Another useful feature is to check out potential link
partners. Someone emails you and asks for a reciprocal link.
But if you’re getting more visitors each day than they’ll
get all year then it’s not a fair deal - you’ll send them
tons of traffic and get virtually nothing back in exchange.

3) Google Toolbar

The Google toolbar has two particurly useful features.

Firstly by installing it on your browser, whenever you visit
a website it’ll tell you their Google PageRank. PageRank is
Google’s measure of how “important” a site is. A PR of 1-2
is typical for new sites. 5 is reasonable and 7+ is very
impressive indeed.

By only linking to high PR sites (5+) Google will see
you in a better light.

Secondly, is that the Google Toolbar effortlessly lets you
check “backwards links”.

That way, you simply surf over to each of your main
competitors, and use this feature to see which websites are
linking to them. Then assess each website based on their PR
and Alexa ranking to quickly come up with a powerful list of
potential link partners. Easy!

> http:/ oolbar.google.com/

4) BetterWhois

You’ve got a list of potential link partners with high
quality sites. Next visit each one to check for the quality
of the site and that it’s theme is closely related to yours.

Then find some way to contact them.

But what if you can’t find one anywhere?

Just visit BetterWhois, type in the domain name, and up will
pop all the information - including their email address.

Sorted.

5) Link Partners

Done all of that, and still want more link partners? Well
how about a website that lists dozens of websites, all
actively looking for link partners?

6) The Warrior Forum

Probably the greatest internet marketing discussion forum of
all time, run by a select group of very helpful and
successful internet marketers.

Together with links to tons of free articles, ebooks and
special offers for visitors to the forum you’d have to be
mad not to become a regular.

7) Internet Marketing Index

The real strength of this site is that it is a *huge*
database of marketing products and services.

All the links are categorised under dozens of headings -
search engine optimisation, running a newsletter, writing
ebooks etc.

So if you have a problem but don’t know where to start - you
just find the relevant heading and follow all the links to
see masses of ebooks, programs and member sites that’ll tell
you everything you need to know about that topic.

8) GetResponse

The very least you should be doing with your website is
gathering email addresses of your visitors. You can then use
this information to market to them time and again.

You may decide to run a full-blown newsletter, and you might
even like to use an autoresponder to distribute useful
articles or sales letters to your prospects.

Whichever of these you decide to do, GetResponse will do it
for you.

9) HyperTracker

Produced by the same people as GetResponse, HyperTracker is
an ad tracking service. If you place adverts anywhere on the
net HyperTracker will let you keep ontop of the results.

10) Sitesell’s Free Ebooks

Sitesell have made some free “trial” copies of their
ebooks available - which are a fantastic introduction to
their company, and e-commerce in general.

You-d have to be mad not to try them all out if you’re new
to e-commerce.

ISO 9001 Okay Now You Have It How Do You Market It?

May 23rd, 2008

Marketing ISO 9001 2000.

Lately we’ve been seeing a lot of press releases from wineries and suppliers touting their ISO certifications. “We’ve obtained ISO 9001: 2000,” they trumpet. Great! But what exactly does that mean?

In simple terms, ISO certification verifies a company’s compliance to a set of globally accepted s tandards for quality management and operational systems. The name ISO refers to both the Greek word for equal, and the International Organization for Standardization, a worldwide federation established in 1947 with a mission to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services. More than 90 countries use the ISO standard.

According to Anke Varcin, head of public relations for ISO, the organization’s function is to develop the standards that auditors use to evaluate companies seeking certification. “ISO … does not audit organizations and does not issue certificates attesting to the fact that they conform to ISO standards,” Varcin explained. “Certification is carried out independently of ISO by some 750 certification bodies around the world. ISO does not control their activities.”

How does ISO determine its standards? “What happens is that the need for a standard is felt by an industry or business sector which communicates the requirement to one of ISO’s national members,” Varcin said. “The latter then proposes the new work item to ISO as a whole. If accepted, the work item is assigned to an existing technical committee. Proposals may also be made to set up technical committees to cover new scopes of technological activity. In order to use resources most efficiently, ISO only launches the development of new standards for which there is clearly a market requirement.”

There are many different types of certification, depending on the company’s function and the year in which certification was issued. “Previously, ‘ISO 9000-certified’ organizations were actually certified to one of the three standards in the 1994 version of the ISO 9000 series: ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003,” Varcin said. “The scope of these standards differed, but they were of equal rank.” (For more information about the various certifications, visit the ISO Web site: iso.org.)

In 2000, the revised and improved ISO 9001:2000 standard was introduced to replace the 1994 versions. Organizations certified to the 1994 versions were given until Dec. 15, 2003, to upgrade to ISO 9001:2000. Both ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 concern the way a company goes about its work–but not directly the result of this work. However, the way in which a company manages its processes will obviously affect its final product.

So why seek ISO certification? “Deciding to have an independent audit of a management system … is a decision to be taken on business grounds,” Varcin said. Companies may decide to seek ISO certification for any number of reasons, including market requirements, customer preferences or staff motivation. Companies that adhere to ISO standards may benefit from increased demand for their products, more positive customer feedback and a reduction in costs.

On the subject of cost, there is no set price for certification. According to Varcin, it varies depending on such factors as the company’s current quality management system, the size and complexity of the organization and the attitude and commitment of the top management.

Setting An Example

If anyone knows how the ISO certification process works, it’s Lisa Farrell, director of communications for New York’s Canandaigua Wine Company. Two of Canandaigua’s wineries–Mission Bell, in Madera, Calif., and New York’s Widmer’s Wine Cellars–have obtained ISO 9001:2000, and several more of the company’s California, New York and Washington wineries are scheduled to follow.

“Canandaigua Wine is making a concerted effort toward standardizing its processes throughout the production environment to gain discipline and sustainability,” Farrell explained. “The ISO certification provides us with standard operating procedures, which include valuable communication and system feedback loops among Canandaigua Wine and its customers, employees and managers. It helps us document and control our manufacturing processes to help exceed customer expectations and ensure quality processes within our production environment.”

To get the process rolling, Canandaigua worked with Dr. Judy Luchsinger, who consulted with Fetzer during its ISO certification in 1994. With Luchsinger’s help, Mission Bell and Widmer’s completed the following steps leading to their ISO 9001:2000 certifications.

Applied to approved ISO-certifying bodies and selected Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance for auditing toward certification

Formation of ISO leadership teams at both wineries

Kick-off meetings held with employees at both wineries

Quality manuals created at both wineries

Employee training at both wineries

Audit and certification process, including all areas of production, bottling and distribution, including internal and external audits conducted by an assessor representing Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.

“After the external audit, the assessor then makes a recommendation for or against certification, which is reviewed by the management team of (the certifying body),” Farrell said. Both Mission Bell and Widmer’s were approved after about a year.

“The (certification) standards are challenging to meet,” Farrell said. “To pursue them, you must follow standard operating procedures as outlined in your quality manual and have the discipline and focus needed to follow these consistently and in a highly efficient manner. This process demands strong leadership from senior management and a sense of commitment and teamwork among employees at all levels.”

Is Getting Certified Worth The Effort?

To get the inside scoop, we asked wine industry suppliers (listed in the W & V Buyer’s Guide/Directory) to tell us why their companies took the plunge, and whether or not they’re happy with the results. This partial list represents a random sampling.

Supreme Corq, Inc. Kent, Wash.

According to marketing manager Joyce Steers-Greget, Supreme Corq decided to pursue ISO certification “to ensure a consistent, quality product … to ensure continuing customer satisfaction and effective process controls … and to receive a globally recognized quality process certification.” The company earned ISO 9001:2000 in July of 2002. “Our customers are pleased that we have taken this proactive step … Some larger wineries or grocers require compliance to quality and food standards to be an approved supplier. As the wine industry becomes more global, ISO certification will likely be necessary to compete in this international arena.”

M.A. Silva Corks, USA Santa Rosa, Calif.

“Our supplier in Portugal felt that the market was looking for companies that had that certification, that (it would give them) some sort of competitive advantage. They also felt that it would greatly improve the company’s performance and (help it to) operate at a better standard,” said company representative Neil Foster. After meeting the requirements for ISO 9001, Foster said, the company’s product improved and business increased. “And also new markets opened up for us…and we noticed that we saw increasing business from (existing) customers. It’s a positive thing, without a doubt.”

Novembal San Francisco, Calif.

Though Novembal itself is not ISO certified, its supplier–TetraPak Plastics in Mexico–obtained ISO 9001:2000 in Nov., 2002. “We (felt) that is was important for our company to adopt a quality system like ISO, because this system permits us to integrate all of the company’s processes–human resources, maintenance and management,” said TetraPak ISO coordinator Adriana Flores. Since adopting ISO standards, Flores said, her company’s clients feel more secure and the company’s processes run more smoothly. “The most important improvement is the process standardization.”

Scott Laboratories, Inc. Petaluma, Calif.

“In order for our growing company to continually improve we needed a good documented quality management system,” said ISO lead auditor Mary Ann Changnon. “Also some of our customers were requiring ISO certification from their vendors.” The company’s cork and laboratory sectors were awarded ISO 9000:1994 in July of 1999, and all company sectors obtained ISO 9001:2000 in August of 2001. “We use ISO certification as a sales tool. We open our quality system to our customers so they can see our commitment to continually improve both our products and services. We have noticed improvements in many of our products due to improved processes as a result of customer input.”

Be Amazed by the Improvement of Tellies

May 22nd, 2008

Television or TV as we abbreviate it to is a large-scale used communications way for communicating and delivering moving images and audio, or as we more commonly know it as, TV series. Commercially offered ever since the 1930’s the television set has grown to be a universal household communications apparatus in homes & firms, primarily as a supply of entertainment and gossip. Ever since the 1970s video recording on Video Cassette Recording tapes & later, digital playback devices for instance DVDs have given the ability for the television to be used to watch taped children’s programmes & other channels. Find bargain televisions to buy at Digital Direct.

Television systems are made up of numerous components, so a telly screen that short of an internal tuner to acquire the broadcast signals is named a monitor rather than a TV. Given that the future is now, TV’s have improved on somewhat & technology has advanced, televisions lately are built to obtain various TV broadcasts or video set-ups similar to that of high definition TVs regularly referred to as HDTV. When High-Definition Tellies were initially available to buy they were tremendously expensive, although, nowadays it’s not impossible to discover discounted TV’s from most retailers. Such as a thirty seven inch LCD TV may well have at one time have set you back in cash £1,000 it is in recent times viable to uncover one up for a great deal less than this, you will find that largely LCD widescreens TV’s have fallen very much in value when contrasted to a year ago.

There are two forms of TV’s in recent times, plasma & LCD both are extremely alike but very diverse at the same time. Plasma is a class of flat panel display that you will often only spot on large TV screens, which on the whole implies you will not be able to get plasma TVs in anything smaller than a 37 inch. Plasma displays in there original shape are just gas canisters. You then have LCD screens which you can discover in several resolutions and they can also be used as desktop monitors.

May 22nd, 2008

Patios serve as extensions of the living rooms inside the house. They serve as mirrors and reflect how the inside of the house. It is important that the patio be decorated and presentable to those that who see it. Landscaping the patio is one way to make it attractive in the eyes of those who look at it.

1. An outdoor chime may be placed to add a light mood in the patio. Wind chimes and musical chimes are perfect for outdoor use. Hearing pleasing sounds in the patio can add drama to the landscape.

2. Patio heaters may be used to provide warmth in colder weather. This will allow more time to spend in the patio rather than staying inside the house in cooler weather.

5. Planters should never be missed in landscaping the patio. Patios always come with planters. They can be used to plant flowers and add beauty to the landscaped area.

Las Vegas Casino Weddings

May 20th, 2008

If you are at all familiar with Las Vegas, you know that the number one item on everybody’s list there is gambling. You can find anything to gamble on and someone to gamble with somewhere in Las Vegas. And if you’ve ever spent time in any of the casinos in Las Vegas you’ll already know that the flow of money back and forth over tables is not interrupted by somebody’s wedding ceremony.

However, there are several options available for people who simply must get married in the setting of an active casino. First, there are private casinos in most of the major hotels on the strip that will allow certain guests, celebrities and high rollers to have their ceremony in these rooms that are not open to the public. Second, and this is the more affordable, readily available option, in the hotel chapels and in some of the other chapels around town, slot machines, blackjack tables and such can be brought into the room, with chips and dealers, to give the ambiance of a real casino. In fact, because you’re in a town where Las Vegas casino weddings are put together a lot, you can even have the option of gambling for real, either giving your party guests a pre-determined amount of real chips to play with or not.

Remember, though, if the gambling is real, the usual casino rules about age limits will have to be respected. Still, if you have your heart set on getting married in a casino and you’re not worth a few billion, this is the way to go and you can rest assured that everybody in your party will have an absolute ball!

California Health Insurance Quote

May 20th, 2008

In a world of growing unease, it is more important that ever to insure individual good health. The stress of worrying about the expense of health care and health insurance is enough, in itself, to make you sick. With health expenses spiraling out of control, making even basic health care seem too difficult for the average person to obtain, it is more important than ever to make sure your insurance is the best that money can buy for you. In California, and elsewhere, it is essential to do some research, to gain quotes for the amounts you might pay in health insurance, for the policy itself and at the time of service. Health insurance is one of the most important purchases you may ever need to make.

Whether you live in Los Angeles or Redding, San Diego or Sacramento, people in California tend to care about the same things: fresh air, clean water, and anything else necessary for good health. People in such diverse areas also know how wildly different health insurance rates might be based upon the needs and goals of an individual. Good consumers in California know that obtaining a california health insurance quote is the best way to find the best deal on health insurance. While company recognition and comfort with your policy are important, most often, health insurance purchases, in California and everywhere else, depend greatly upon the quote, upon the price. While good health is priceless, as we all well know, health insurance is not.

A California quote for health insurance gives the consumer the information they need to make an informed decision regarding the health and care of them as individuals, as well as the group of their families. Regarding the actual quote obtained for health insurance, it is important to compare like policies. One must read carefully under each policy what may be covered, as well as costs at the times of a scheduled doctor appointment or, in case of emergency, at the hospital. It is important, too, to address questions about choice of physicians, payment for pregnancy, pre-existing conditions, and countless other issues when determining which policy may be right for you and your family. Policies are as diverse as the families who need them, so it is essential to fully comprehend the details surrounding your health insurance quote, from what may be required of you, initially or at the time of service, as well as what may be required of your health professionals.

A health insurance quote, in California and throughout the United States, is the consumer’s best access to actual health insurance information regarding the standard of care and cost they may expect. In a time when our paychecks seem to be shrinking as the cost of our monthly bills rise, it is undeniably necessary to make the best choices possible when it comes to our financial concerns, as well as our physical care. In uneasy times, having the certainty of an official quote, a set cost for health insurance, can give the individual the peace of mind that truly brings good health. With a California health insurance quote, the individual is assured of exacting parameters of the policy on which they must depend. This speaks to the most basic of human desires - good health and financial security. You owe it to yourself to insure both.

History of the Cafetiere

May 20th, 2008

Cafetieres are probably the most commonly used method of brewing
coffee. Many coffee lovers swear on the fact that the cafetiere
is the best method, as it preserves the delicate flavours in the
oils, giving a smooth, rich bodied coffee.

The exact history and origin of the cafetiere is not clear. Both
the French and the Italians lay claims to its invention. What is
known is that the first cafetieres appeared in France in the
1850s. These coffee pots were made of metal and fitted with a
metal screen attached to a rod. The metal screen would be
plunged down, using the rod, forcing the coffee grounds to the
bottom of the pot.

One story of how the cafetiere was invented involves an old man
from Provence. The story goes that the old man used to go for a
walk up a hill everyday to get some peace and quiet from his
nagging wife. No matter how bad the weather was, blistering heat
or driving rain, the old man would make the journey. As he
sought to escape his wife for as long a period as possible he
would take with him a small amount of food, some firewood and
his favourite old coffee pot. When he reached the top of the
hill he would take an extended rest, taking time out to light a
fire, eat his food and brew some coffee.

Now coffee back then was typically strong, bitter and tasted
dreadful. It would be made by adding water and coffee grounds to
a pot and then placing the pot on an open fire or stove until
the water boiled. Little did they know back then that boiling
water destroys the oil in coffee, from which coffee gains its
flavour.

One day the old man was making his coffee as he always did. But
this time he forgot to add his coffee grounds to his coffee pot.
It was not until the water started boiling away in the pot that
the old man realised his mistake. He quickly removed the pot
from the flames and added in his coffee grounds. Of course the
old man did not know that making his coffee this way would
result in the coffee grounds floating to the top. Made the usual
way, the coffee grounds would have sunk to the bottom of the pot
by the time the water had boiled. The old man took one look at
his coffee and thought, “I can’t drink this. I’ll end up
swallowing the ground coffee.”

As if by chance, as the old man contemplated going without his
coffee (he had only brought enough water and coffee grounds for
one pot), an Italian travelling merchant appeared on the
horizon. Among the many goods the merchant was carrying was a
metal screen. The old man saw this screen and quickly hit upon
an idea. He swiftly brought a section of this screen from the
merchant and carefully fitted it over his coffee pot. Using a
stick which lay nearby, he plunged the metal screen down to the
bottom of the pot, thus trapping the coffee grounds. He then
took a sip from his pot and immediately a big smile broke out
across his face. The merchant, keen to find out why the old man
was smiling, asked if he could try some of his coffee. After
taking a big gulp from the pot, the merchant gave the old man a
knowing look. This was the best coffee either of them had ever
tasted!

The story goes on to say that after trying this fantastic
coffee, the two men decided to open a small factory
manufacturing their new invention: a coffee pot with a fitted
plunger. Their cafetiere made them both a small fortune.

Stories aside, we know that the first registered patent for a
cafetiere was lodged in 1929 by a Milanese man called Attilio
Calimani. Over the years, Attilio refined his ‘apparatus for the
preparation of infusions of coffee’ to quicken the filtration of
the coffee.

The next significant step in the history of the cafetiere came
in 1958, when another Italian, Faliero Bondanini, was granted a
patent for his version of the cafetiere. Bondanini’s version
became very popular in France, and by the early 1960s it was
seen as a must have item for every French home. It was around
this time that a British company, Household Articles Ltd,
realised the potential for the cafetiere and introduced their
version, the ‘Classic’, to the UK. Drawing on the French
influences on this coffee maker, they marketed it as ‘La
Cafetiere’ (The Coffee Pot). This is where the generic term
‘cafetiere’ for French-press or ‘plunge-filter’ coffee maker
comes from.

Is Your Teenage Driver Safe?

May 20th, 2008

Teenagers are known as one of the accident-prone drivers on the streets and roads. Studies have given blame to the adolescents’ raging hormones and risky behavior. Of course, you yourself would know about this if you learned to drive a car in your teens. For most teens, getting behind the wheel of a car gives them a new sense of freedom which is a different situation from their restrictive rules at home or in school.

On a parent’s end, the worrying seems to be so natural for they, themselves, have been drivers themselves and they do know just what kind of risks these teenage drivers are putting themselves into.

Dan Olmsted is the president of Atlantic Mutual and he also is the father to a new teenage driver. He states, “Parents have good reason to be concerned. Traffic crashes account for 44 per cent of teen fatalities, more than any other cause, and driving at night with other teenage friends in the car just about tops the list of risk-laden situations.”

Olmsted also states that besides such a fear of knowing that their teenagers could get injured any minute as they are behind the wheel, parents also fear that they are also responsible in cases during accidents. Aside from paying up for their own vehicle’s damages, if there are any third parties involved, the parents would also be the ones involved in taking care that everybody is well and everything has been paid for.

If you have a new teenage driver or any teenage driver for that matter, it is important that you, as the parent, let him know about the consequences of his driving behavior. You should both sit down and try to develop an agreement on using the car. Write everything you have agreed upon. Just make sure that you include everything like seatbelts, the use of cellular phones, who can be their passengers and how many passengers can he drive, and curfews.

Olmsted further states, “Nothing will make your teen drive perfectly and take all of the anxiety away. But with planning, clear communication, and a firmly enforced set of rules, parents can rely on a lot more than prayer and a large helping of trust when they hand over the keys.”
